When I first showed Brandon my sketch concepts for "Vin, Mistborn" he said "I like her standing stoically atop Kredik Shaw.  I also like the ground shattering landing high-action."

"Okay, which one shall I go with then?" I asked.

"Nope, I don't have to decide.  This leatherbound edition is my baby, and I will pamper it.  I like both - Let's do both."

My awesome dream-painting had just doubled.  I may have fallen to the floor with glee.  Just a little.

In the mists, in the moments before action, I wanted to subtly convey her allomantic powers.  Show the heightened senses by showing the briefest flash of time in sharp detail.  Show her physical power by the stone shattering around her landing.  The mists ever so slightly swirling, almost caressing, her form.  The feint blue light of a coinshot's abilities to sense and manipulate metal leading Vin to her foes.  And of course, there is more, but I'll let you explore on your own.

“Sometimes Vin imagined she was like the ash, or the wind, or the mist itself. A thing without thought, capable of simply being, not thinking, caring, or hurting. Then she could be...free.”

     -Brandon Sanderson, The Final Empire
